The Foot Hammock
When I found this crazy piece of wood I knew there was only one thing I could make with it. For lack of a better term, I call this thing a foot hammock. It is very comfortable, with a mild slant away from your chair to support your calves and feet in a natural position.
The top surface is about 15 inches off the floor, 24 inches wide, and 18 inches deep. The fabric is 100% cotton canvas, the wood is apple and red maple, the finish is food-grade linseed oil, and the joints are reinforced with polyurethane glue. This piece is not designed to support the full weight of a human being.
This foot hammock now belongs to my father.
Another Foot Hammock
This foot hammock is made of red maple from the Catskills, and the tree was originally cleared from a building site for a straw-bale house in Forestburgh, NY.
This foot hammock stands 18 inches tall and has a top surface of 18 inches by 24 inches. The top is flat rather than sloped, and cradles the user's legs quite nicely.
The fabric is 100% cotton canvas, the finish is food-grade linseed oil, and the joints are reinforced with polyurethane glue. This piece can support the full weight of a medium-sized person, but it is not intended to be used as a seat.
This item is now in the able hands of a Rochester, NY massage therapist, who uses it to give foot massages.
